Under the current tax law, more and more seniors will be using the larger Standard Deduction. If you are 73 or older, have an IRA and make charitable deductions, you have the opportunity to get an additional tax benefit from your charitable contributions without reducing your Standard Deduction. A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a direct transfer from an IRA to a church or other charitable organization. It is not taxable and can count toward meeting your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD).
There are a few easily satisfied requirements, so if this provision is of interest, speak with your tax advisor and/or IRA custodian and contact Karen Minno in the church office to coordinate the portion you choose to donate to Good Shepherd.
