Chapter 1: I Got Game
How do you set and accomplish goals? What choices and decisions will need to be made to accomplish these goals?
Focus: Developing a Game Plan for your life can help you reach your future goals and dreams. Making good decisions now and choosing abstinence can make your Game Plan a lot easier to accomplish (Game Plan, pg 12).
Abstinence doesn’t mean: Sex is bad. Abstinence means: Sex is good. Save it, protect it and preserve it so that you can enjoy it in a marriage relationship (Game Plan, pg 10)
Chapter 2: TV Time-Out
Do you see through the sexual lies that the media portrays? Can you recognize how the media influences your behavior regarding sexual activity?
Focus: TV companies use sex to attract viewers and increase their ratings. Increased ratings mean more money for the TV stations (Game Plan, pg 18)
The media gives us many messages about sex, but are they all true? Being able to critically analyze the media and its messages can help you when you are tuned in (Game Plan, pg 22).
Chapter 3: Rules of the Game
Do you know that by playing by the rules, you can win not just in sports, but in life?
Focus: The self-control that enables you to be abstinent also helps you to succeed in life. Teens that choose to control their actions are more likely to accomplish their goals in life. (Game Plan, pg 28)
This chapter teaches 5 steps on how to practice self control.
Monday, August 4th
Chapter 4: Avoiding the Penalties
Do you know the consequences of having pre-marital sexual activity?
Focus: The only safe sex is in a marriage relationship where a man and a woman are faithful to each other for life. Don’t settle for less than the best. Go for the gold. (Game Plan, pg 38)
Chapter 5: Half Time
Do you know that regardless of what’s already taken place in your life, you can still plan for a successful future?
Focus: Sex isn’t just a physical act. Sex creates a strong emotional bond between the two people involved, a bond that can be long-lasting. Outside of marriage, the emotional bonding can cause heartache and painful memories (Game Plan, pg 46)
This chapter focuses on the fact that it is never too late to start over again.
Chapter 6: Building Your Team
Do you know that the people you have on your team can make or break your game?
Focus: Healthy relationships focus on helping the other person achieve his or her best while also becoming the best person you can be. Game Plan explains what healthy and unhealthy character qualities are and how choosing good friends will help them in reaching their goals and dreams.
Monday, August 11th
Chapter 7: Winning the Prize
Do you know what marriage is all about? What does abstinence now have to do with a healthy, happy marriage later?
Focus: This chapter helps students to explore the qualities found in healthy and happy marriages. We will discuss what true love is and what it looks like and if it is possible to have a successful marriage today. When a relationship is based on trust, respect, and friendship a great foundation for marriage later on is built.
Chapter 8: Game Time
Do you know that living by a good Game Plan is the key to winning at life?
Focus: Self-control is a sign of maturity, responsibility, respect for yourself, and respect for others. It takes a strong person to resist the pressures from within or without. Those who make healthy choices are not people who have never struggled-they are people who have struggled and won because they believe that they are worth it! We will discuss the importance of being confident in who you are, not in who others want you to be. (Game Plan, pg 73 and 74)
