Description
Apologetics is a branch of theology which is concerned with the defense of the Christian faith. For Catholics, the term is used to mean the systematic and written explanation of the teachings of the Catholic Church as a whole. Apologetics is derived from the Greek word apologia ("apologetikos"). In the Classical Greek legal system two key technical terms were employed: the prosecution delivered the "kategoria", and the defendant replied with an "apologia". To deliver an "apologia" then meant making a formal speech to reply and rebut the charges.
A
Catholic apologist defends his/her faith based on Scripture (all of it),
History (also known as Sacred Tradition) and common sense. These classes have
been designed for us to study our faith and our Church and find out what
exactly we believe as Catholics, and then to determine why it is that we believe
it. These are dynamic classes that are changing the way participants
practice their faith. They foster a deeper, more intimate relationship with
our Lord as we learn how His sacrifice has been foretold since the Garden of
Eden. He has never abandoned His people and the gates of Hades will not
prevail against His Church. (Matt. 16 )
