Altar Servers

Boys and girls, 4th grade and above, may serve in this ministry. Altar servers assist at all scheduled weekly Masses, arriving at least 15 minutes before Mass.

Centering Prayer

This is a method of prayer designed to aid in the eventual development of contemplative prayer. Centering Prayer does not replace other kinds of prayer, but puts other kinds of into a new perspective. It brings a deeper meaning to our practices of the Sacraments, prayer and bible study and opens us up to the movement of the Holy Spirit throughout our daily lives. Group meets every Wednesday, 9:45 - 11:00 am in Room 309.

Church Decorating

Volunteers assist with decorating the church during special liturgies, especially during the Christmas and Easter seasons .

Choirs

Good Shepherd is blessed to have a variety of choirs that serve on Sundays and other special occasions. Each weekend Mass has a choir and choir director. Specialized choirs include: Spirit Singers (children's choir), the Men's choir, the Handbell Choir and the Resurrection Choir (serves at funeral and Memorial Masses). Lectors

Lectors proclaim the word of God on Sundays and weekdays. A lector formation process is held in the Spring and Fall. Visit the Lectors web pages to learn more about the lector formation process.

Liturgy of the Word for Children

During the readings and homily time, children ages 5 through Grade 5 are invited to a separate location where volunteers read and discuss the Sunday readings with children using the Children's Lectionary. Presenters and assistants are needed for the 10:15 am, 12:00 noon and 6:00 pm Masses.

Sacristans

Sacristans set up and maintain the vestments, vessels, altar cloths, bread and wine for the weekday and Sunday Masses, as well as for special liturgies. Volunteers are rotated monthly.

Welcoming Ministers

Welcoming Ministers help to make visitors and parishioners feel welcome at Sunday Mass by greeting them with a friendly smile, opening doors and saying hello. They also perform additional liturgical functions, such as collection, communion procession and bulletin distribution, with care and reverence. Volunteers wear name tags and arrive 20 minutes before Mass. Service is about once per month.

Communion for the Homebound

Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist who bring communion to fellow parishioners who are sick, in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, in the hospital, or homebound and are unable to join in the celebration of Mass.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Communion are privileged to serve as Ministers of the Body and Blood as needed by the parish.

Formation: Training for new ministers is once per year. New Ministers must attend a theology class as well as a procedures class.

Commitment: After required training, serving at 1 weekend Mass approximately every 3 weeks.

Charismatic Prayer Group
Gatherings that include praise music, quiet prayer, inspired words and shared scripture. Led by the Holy Spirit, this is an opportunity to witness charismatic gifts being used to build the body of Christ.

Healing Prayer Ministry

The Healing Prayer Ministry has Healing Nights at Good Shepherd on the 1st Thursday (and at Killearn United Methodist on the 3rd Thursday) of every month from 7 to 9 pm. All in need of physical, emotional, spiritual, and/or relational healing are welcome. We also have a monthly Healing Service on the first Sunday of every month at
7:30 pm in the church. Life Model Groups and In-Depth Prayer Ministry opportunities are also available.

Enthronement of the Sacred Heart

Families invite Jesus into their home to be the center of the heart and family. A special ceremony is held in the home.

Saturday Adoration

Adoration takes place on the first Saturday of each month in the chapel from 9:30 am-5:00 pm. Parishioners are invited to spend some quality time with the Lord. A sign-up sheet is posted outside the chapel the week before the first Saturday.
