Sunday Lector Training: Fall 2008
During the month of October we are offering a skills workshop for all those who are interested in becoming lectors at Good Shepherd. The workshop will be presented using a teaching DVD developed by Liturgy Training Publications entitled “Lector and Gospel Readers Workshop: A Resource for Bringing God’s Word to Life” featuring Audrey Sommers, nationally known lector trainer for the Archdiocese of Detroit. The workshop includes a review of lector skills, some practical exercises & ideas about how to properly prepare to proclaim the Scriptures at Mass. We are providing several opportunities to attend the workshop:
Saturday, October 11 from 9:30-11:00am in Room 201
Monday, October 13 from 7:30-9:00pm in Room 311
Wednesday, October 22 from 7:30-9:00pm in Room 310
You need only select ONE of these sessions to attend. Each session will last approximately an hour and a half.
In addition to the skills workshop, prospective lectors will also need to participate in a proclamation exercise where a prepared Scripture text will be read aloud in the church and videotaped for review and discussion. These sessions are scheduled to take place on Sunday afternoons to accommodate our need to use the church. We are offering two proclamation exercise times this fall:
October 26th at 3:30pm in the Church
November 2nd at 3:00pm in the Church
To ensure that we have adequate time for lectors to proclaim and reading and then review and discuss the videotape, these proclamation exercises are limited to no more than 8 lectors at any one session. A reservation will be required to ensure that all lectors can make a proclamation exercise.
